Measure Your Garage for a Door

5 Easy steps to getting a perfect measurement
Overhead Door of Winnipeg > Residential > Measure Garage Door

When it comes to measuring your garage for a new door do you become overwhelmed.

It’s easier than you think! Whether you’re replacing a current door or measuring for a new installation, measuring space for a garage door can be as easy as 1-2-3-4.

1. The Garage Door Jamb
Measure the width and height of your door opening to determine the size of door you require. Record in both feet/inches and metres/centimetres.

2. Clearance on either side of the door Jamb
This measurement goes from the outside edge of the jamb on the left and right sides. Measure to the wall or nearest obstruction (man doors etc.).

3. Headroom
This is the area above the finished door opening (or jamb header) and ceiling (or underside of joists). Your Overhead Door professional will then be able to determine what type of garage door will be best suited to your available space.

4. Backroom
The depth of your garage. This is the area where your garage door will retract to when open on its tracks.

5. Other areas
In order for your garage door to sit properly, a level surface will be best. Keep an eye out for lips as well.
